Summary

The Automation Engineer will be part of a team in the Engineering Department and will provide key support throughout the lifecycle of various manufacturing and laboratory projects and systems. This role will be responsible for determining system integration capabilities, developing corresponding SCADA objects and screens, and solving complex automation problems, including the development of project plans and budgets.



Responsibilities

This role will be responsible for troubleshooting equipment and automation issues on the manufacturing floor and guiding junior Automation Engineers in performing daily tasks. This role will have the opportunity to lead projects in the deployment of new processes, systems, and automation control capabilities. The role will require leading automation-related investigations, change controls, corrective and preventative actions as part of the site Quality programs. Responsibilities also include working on capital projects and providing technical leadership in fulfilling automation requirements.

  • Understands and supports all GMP, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Evaluates automation systems and equipment to develop strategies to optimize and ensure quality and stability of the automation systems through future expansion and operational enhancements
  • Participates in audits and training programs
  • On-floor support of process equipment and lab systems
  • Perform computer setup including network configuration and policy updates
  • Test and/or simulate values for integration verification of data points to SCADA and site Historian
  • Maintain technical documentation

Qualifications

  • BS Degree (Electrical, Industrial Computer, Automation Engineering or a related discipline) with 5+ years of experience
  • Minimum 2 years hands on experience with instrumentation and controls equipment including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and networking equipment
  • Strong automation engineering skills and abilitiy
  • Experience with Unicorn, Wonderware, Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk, Rockwell Automation RSLogix, Siemens Desigo, Open Process Control (OPC), Kepware preferable
  • Experience with historian systems such as OSI Pi preferable
  • Must have experience with Windows Servers hardware and Microsoft Windows applications
  • Experience with communication protocols including but not limited to RS-458, RS-232, Ethernet and Modbus
  • Experience in Biopharma manufacturing preferable
  • Must have experience with writing protocols, test scripts, user requirements, and system design documents
  • Must have strong organization, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
