Summary

Our client is searching for a highly motivated Scientist or Senior Scientist to identify, validate, and develop novel drug targets and therapies for cognitive and neurodegenerative disease to support their Biological Discovery program. The successful candidate will have a track record of deep technical knowledge in molecular biology, protein biochemistry, neuroscience, functional cell-based assays, and a demonstrated ability to execute in a goal- and team-focused environment. You will use your creativity and proficiency when utilizing modern molecular biology tools including the design and execution of novel vectors, proteins, and novel assays to explore synaptic development and function. The best candidates will be excited about drug development, bringing new therapies to patients, and a desire to work in a team environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to building an exciting and successful start-up company
  • Work directly with an experienced executive team with input from a world-class scientific advisory board
  • Contribute to and manage the buildout of core platform technology
  • Play a central role in the discovery and development of therapeutic candidates

Qualifications

  • A PhD degree with a highly productive track record of independent, and cutting edge multi-disciplinary research with 0-6 years of industry experience or BS/MS with >8 years of industry experience
  • Team spirit: a collaborative, transparent and communicative mindset
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience executing and implementing experiments utilizing state of art cell culture, lentivirus and/or protein expression, cell biology, imaging, and biochemical techniques
  • Strong communication and people leadership skills
  • Organizational skills and flexibility in an exciting biotech start-up environment
  • Primary skills/experience that are of high interest:
    • Demonstrated ability to execute novel in vitro, cell-based pharmacology assays utilizing primary rodent neurons or human iPSC-derived neuronal cultures
    • Analytical skills including data analysis with programs such as image-j and R
    • Fluent in protein design, production, and purification techniques
    • Biologic, small molecule and novel modality drug development experience
    • Experience with calcium imaging and electrophysiological techniques
    • Experience with culturing human iPSC and differentiation into neurons
    • High throughput automation assays
    • Confocol imaging of live cells and image analysis
    • Expertise in genomics, proteomics, and genome editing technologies
    • Protein biochemistry and biological engineering
