Solutions Architect - Job Description

6 Month Contract

Remote within UK

£625 p/d inside IR35


As a Solutions Architect, you will play a pivotal role in collaborating with Business and Technology teams to assess design options and deliver robust recommendations. Your responsibilities include:

  • Evaluation and Recommendation:

    • Work closely with Business and Technology colleagues to effectively evaluate design options.
    • Ensure robust recommendations are made based on thorough assessments.
  • Project Governance:

    • Oversee project delivery alignment with agreed designs.
    • Assess the impact of change requests on high-level design.
  • Collaborative Design:

    • Conduct design forums and workshops involving developer, operational, and business stakeholders.
    • Engage with third-party vendors in design processes.
  • Approval and Presentation:

    • Distribute designs for approval.
    • Present designs at formal clinics.
  • Peer Review:

    • Conduct peer reviews of designs produced by colleagues.
  • Community Engagement:

    • Participate in technical communities of interest to enhance Virgin Money software development policies and standards.
  • Estimation Support:

    • Provide Solution Design estimates to contribute to Business Cases.
  • Internal Improvement Initiatives:

    • Participate in internal improvement initiatives to enhance the overall capability of the Solutions Design competency.
  • Collaboration with Lead Solution Architects:

    • Work alongside Lead Solution Architects and collaborate with other Architects within the Solutions Architecture competency to support the bank's business projects.


We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Technological Expertise:

    • Experience with a range of technologies, including Messaging & Middleware, Microservices, Cloud, and Data Streaming.
  • Solution Architecture:

    • Demonstrated experience and expertise in solution architecture.
  • SDLC Experience:

    • Experience working in both waterfall and agile environments during the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Design Governance:

    • Understanding and experience of design governance.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Ability to work with both Business and Technology stakeholders to shape solutions to business problems and build personal credibility.
  • Risk Management:

    • Ability to manage and resolve design risks and issues.
  • Influencing Skills:

    • The ability to influence and challenge at a senior level to achieve the best outcome.

Preferred Experience:

  • Support Planning:

    • Assist in driving the scope and delivery shape and schedule, as well as design.
  • Collaboration Skills:

    • Experience working effectively with other Change and Technology professionals.
  • Business Domain Expertise:

    • Experience in areas such as Financial Fraud and AML; Debit & Credit Cards; ATM & POS; Payments (FPS, SWIFT, CHAPS, BACS); Core banking processing; Treasury Systems.
