Position Summary

The Sr. Medical Writer is responsible for authoring and coordinating the review and approval of complex clinical and scientific communications for company programs. S/he is passionate about patients and will develop high quality and timely deliverables with a high degree of relevance to the target audience. The successful individual brings extensive hands-on medical writing experience and will work with cross-functional teams to deliver on assigned publications. S/he will be a liaison with external partners for medical writing and other related activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide expert writing and editing support to ensure timely production of high-quality documents (abstracts, posters, slide presentations, manuscripts, letters to editor, etc.) for publication in medical/scientific journals or presentation at meetings.
  • Develop medical content such as frequently asked questions, standard response letter documents and Medical Affairs presentation slides for reactive and/or proactive scientific exchange.
  • In collaboration with cross functional teams, manage and interpret data required for publication or inclusion in medical content.
  • Following ICMJE authorship criteria, and good publication practices (GPP3) guidelines, actively engage internal and external authors as well as key stakeholders in the development of individual publications, aligned to Medical Affairs Publication Strategy.
  • Swiftly deliver projects through the review and approval management system.
  • Perform all activities in compliance with applicable regulations, company policies and guidelines, including, but not limited to, timely documentation of activities and maintaining all required applicable training.
  • Bring a "can do" spirit to work and deliver on other responsibilities as assigned.

Education Requirements / Professional Work Experience

  • Masters degree; PhD or PharmD preferred
  • 10+ years of experience as a medical writer in pharmaceutical, biotech and/or medical device industry
  • Applicable experience in biotech, pharmaceutical and/or medical device industries preferred
  • Applicable experience in technology, automotive, aerospace and/or military industries is a plus for certain positions.
  • Prior vocational experience in related fields a plus (i.e. Co-Ops, Internships, Fellowships, etc.).

Qualifications And Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and organize clinical and scientific data.
  • Technical expertise/computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office Suite, MS Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, document management systems.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team delivering multiple projects successfully with high quality.
  • Working knowledge of Good Publication Practices (GPP3), and ICMJE Authorship criteria.
  • Experience in type 2 diabetes and/or metabolic disorders and/or medical devices highly preferred
  • Experience using electronic documentation management system preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Strong patient focus.
