I am seeking an experienced API Gateway Support Specialist to join our clients team on a CONTRACT basis. This role is Inside IR35 and is initially for 6 months with a high likely hood of rolling extensions.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving our API gateway infrastructure, ensuring its smooth operation, security, and high performance. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in VMWare, Linux, security best practices, networking concepts, and API gateway technologies. Additionally, experience in stakeholder management and a regulated environment will be highly valued.


  • Maintain and enhance the API gateway infrastructure, ensuring its stability, availability, and optimal performance.
  • Implement security best practices and effectively manage certificate management processes.
  • Utilize VMWare and Linux expertise to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues.
  • Apply networking concepts and best practices to optimize the API gateway environment.
  • Collaborate with internal and external business stakeholders to understand their requirements and provide technical support.
  • Track and manage platform and infrastructure end-of-service life, promoting an "evergreening" approach to ensure up-to-date systems.
  • Leverage knowledge of on-prem infrastructure patterns and concepts to design and improve the API gateway environment.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards in all aspects of API gateway operations.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of VMWare, Linux, and their associated technologies.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and experience with certificate management.
  • Proficiency in networking concepts and best practices.
  • Familiarity with on-prem infrastructure patterns and concepts.
  • Experience communicating effectively with internal and external business stakeholders, technical peers, and suppliers.
  • Proven ability to track and manage platform and infrastructure end-of-service life, promoting continuous improvement.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of API consumption and utilization of API gateways.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience in Open Banking.
  • Familiarity with containerization platforms such as Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • Experience working with CI/CD and DevOps tooling, including designing their use.
  • Experience in on-prem to public cloud migration activities.
  • Familiarity with Apigee and databases (SQL and NoSQL).
