Principal Embedded Software Engineer (Linux) - Medical Device Company

Location: London - Hybrid

Position Type: Full-time

Responsibilities:

As an Embedded Software Engineer you will:

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded software solutions for medical devices, ensuring they meet high standards of reliability, performance, and safety.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, software developers, and quality assurance to define software requirements and system specifications.
  • Implement and optimize real-time Linux-based software for embedded platforms, with a focus on performance and security.
  • Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from initial concept to design, implementation, testing, documentation, and post-release support.
  • Debug and resolve software defects, and conduct thorough testing to ensure robust and reliable software operation.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, applying best practices in embedded software development and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in embedded software development, with a strong emphasis on Linux-based systems.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming languages for embedded applications.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and the Linux kernel.
  • Familiarity with device drivers, communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C), and hardware-software interaction.
  • Prior work in the medical device industry is a strong plus, with knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 13485, IEC 62304, FDA guidelines).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
