Job Description – Software Architect – WiFi/Mesh


Domain Knowledge / Experience Requirements


Required

·      Software architecture of wifi access point systems including device drivers, settings management APIs and supporting management applications

·      Software design patterns and principles of architecturally sound implementation with emphasis on abstraction, interfacing, encapsulation, coupling, scalability and re-use

·      Embedded Linux architectures from bootloader up to user-space applications

·      Linux subsystems including device-drivers, user-space / kernel interaction, systemd, inter-process communication

·      WiFi technologies;

o  802.11 standards (n,ac,ax)

o  Wireless LAN Topologies

o  WiFi Alliance standards

o  Client management solutions, what, why & how

·      Software design patterns and principles of architecturally sound implementation with emphasis on abstraction, interfacing, encapsulation, coupling, scalability and re-use

·      Different API mechanisms including when and how to use

·      Network technologies & protocols including IP, Ethernet & LAN management applications

·      Data representation and communication (e.g. JSON, XML)

·      End to end embedded software development for technology products, from requirements capture, design, development, test and post release maintenance

·      Software delivery workflow tools (e.g. Jira, Redmine)


Desired

·      In-home connectivity products and technologies covering

o  Broadband service delivery

o  Video streaming delivery

·      Mesh network technologies from 1st principles with direct hands on exposure to some specific solutions

·      WAN Networking technologies & protocols including xDSL, PPP, TR-069

·      CPE end-to-end ecosystems including device provisioning, management & diagnostic telemetry


Capabilities

  • Adept at approaching new & unfamiliar technologies, software systems and problems. Self-sufficient in acquiring and applying required knowledge
  • Ability to take high level WiFi related requirements and translate into low level software requirements providing guidance on implementation appropriate to existing WiFi software architecture
  • Able to understand complex software systems and break them down into simpler terms, documenting where necessary to promote clarity of understanding across teams
  • Decompose and abstract software problems to recognise and promote generalised, scalable solutions
  • Produce persuasive technical guidance by obtaining pertinent facts based on referable evidence
  • Articulate clearly and succinctly both orally and in written documentation
  • Can function across multiple stakeholders to drive consensus and alignment employing compromise as appropriate


Responsibilities

  • Break down WiFi / Mesh related product requirements into software requirements providing design / implementation input as appropriate
  • Within software feature delivery lifecycle, perform architect review and sign-off of WiFi / Mesh related tickets prior to commitment into development sprint  
  • Provide point of synchronisation with Comcast Architecture teams acting as conduit of bilateral information share over existing WiFi / Mesh related development and future WiFi / Mesh roadmap
  • Provide source of subject matter expertise on WiFi / Mesh related features to support development and test teams deliver these features into Home Comms products
  • Where needed, provide technical arbitration over WiFi / Mesh related issues representing strategic objectives
