From the London Eye to the Singapore Flyer, James Murueta, Team Manager reveals all about his big move to Southeast Asia to start a new life.
- What made you decide to relocate to Singapore?
I was presented with the opportunity to lead a new team in a new market. It was a fantastic opportunity to grow my career and to grow as a person. Also, Singapore offers great weather, low rates of tax and the opportunity to travel around Asia, plus my wife could also move at the same time.
- Once you had decided to move, what was the process like?
The process itself was quite easy. Hydrogen helped my wife and I with relocating and alos with our visas. We stayed in a hotel for the first two weeks and then we moved into our condo. As I already knew quite a few colleagues who had worked here, the process was even easier.
- Would you recommend this “big move” to anyone?
I couldn't recommend it highly enough! It’s an amazing opportunity to get some international experience and to fast track your career, as well as enjoy the weather, financial awards and travel around the region. It’s basically like living in a huge holiday resort.
- Is your role different from what you were doing in London?
I've completely moved markets, from oil & gas into business transformation, so I have learnt a brand new industry, candidate population and client list.
- How is the team?
The team is really good. There are plenty of people from the London office, so it feels very much like the same company and atmosphere as to back home.
- How does Singapore compare to London?
I now think London is what life used to be like in the olden days and Singapore is what life will be like in the future. Everything is brand new, really clean, very safe, transport is amazing and really cheap. The food is good and every weekend you can spend your time outdoors either doing activities or chilling by the pool. Everybody travels a lot - in the last four months I have been to Hong Kong, Bali, Batam and Bintanm. Next month I’ll be visiting Borneo and Hong Kong, Thailand in December and Bali once again in the New Year.
- What do you miss about London?
The price of a bottle of wine! But seriously, the thing I miss the most is seeing the family, but FaceTime makes things a bit easier, as I now probably talk to my family more than I did when I was back home!
Hydrogen prides itself on offering our staff the opportunities to relocate to any of our global offices. And just like James, you too can have an international career. To find out more email your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org.
