Overview
The Project Manager leads advanced technical, financial, and regulatory planning for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, from early-stage development through construction readiness. This role applies engineering, economic, and project management expertise to optimize project scope, risk allocation, and financial feasibility across complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead pre-construction planning and optimization for utility-scale BESS projects, integrating engineering design, financial modeling, procurement strategy, and regulatory considerations to support investment decisions.
- Manage coordination across matrixed project development teams to ensure alignment with project schedules and priorities.
- Oversee collaboration with environmental, regulatory, cultural, land acquisition, interconnection, and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive project development.
- Develop and refine technical project scope and key variables to enhance both technical performance and financial outcomes.
- Support origination and development teams in power purchase agreement (PPA) and grid interconnection agreement (GIA) processes, including negotiation support.
- Coordinate engineering, estimating, and procurement inputs for financial modeling and project design development.
- Leverage market data and industry insights to ensure robustness of financial models.
- Present financial models to internal stakeholders and guide projects through executive approval processes.
- Source, negotiate, and execute commercial contracts for key services (e.g., geotechnical, survey, engineering, EPC/PC construction).
- Represent project interests and maintain accurate reporting through project management systems and tools.
- Engage with executive leadership, suppliers, regulatory bodies, local communities, and other stakeholders.
- Communicate project status, risks, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders at various levels.
- Ensure smooth transition of projects into the construction phase, including delivery of a complete and executable construction plan.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience, preferably in engineering, infrastructure, or construction environments.
- Experience in renewable energy, electricity markets, or battery storage projects is preferred.
- PMP certification and/or Six Sigma experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and strong capabilities in financial modeling.
- Demonstrated strengths in project management, communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
