Research Associate – Histology (Gene Therapy)
Contract (W2) | $40–45/hr | 6 Months | 40 hrs/week | Potential Conversion
Our client is an early-stage biotechnology company developing novel gene delivery technologies to enable next-generation genetic medicines. The team is building translational research capabilities to support preclinical development programs across multiple therapeutic areas. This role is based onsite in South San Francisco, CA.
They are seeking a Research Associate to support histology and tissue processing as part of a growing gene therapy research group. This role is well suited for someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and execute an on-site tissue processing workflow to support histology analyses
- Receive, process, and prepare mouse, rat, and NHP tissue samples for downstream applications
- Perform FFPE and OCT processing, embedding, and sectioning across a range of tissue types
- Prepare slides for histological and molecular analyses
- Perform special stains including H&E, PAS, Trichrome, and related techniques
- Manage samples, documentation, and records using ELN systems
- Work cross-functionally to ensure timely, high-quality sample preparation
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 0–2 years of relevant experience
- Hands-on experience with histology sample processing and tracking
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Industry experience preferred
Technical Skills
- FFPE and OCT processing, embedding, and sectioning
- Experience across multiple tissues and species
- Exposure to RNA/DNA slide preparation (e.g., RNAscope, spatial methods) is a plus
- Special stains (H&E, PAS, Trichrome, etc.)
- Sample management workflows and SOP documentation
