Monday - Friday, 8am - 6pm ( average 8 hour days with some potential OT needed)

The Durability Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of instrumentation and data acquisition systems used in physical durability testing. This role supports testing of components, subsystems, and vehicles, and is critical to ensuring the accuracy and integrity of test data used to validate product life and performance under various load and environmental conditions.
Top Skills / Core Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and configure sensors such as strain gauges, accelerometers, thermocouples, pressure transducers, displacement transducers, and wheel force transducers (WFTs).
- Lay, apply, and wire strain gauges on components for data output.
- Set up, program, and operate data acquisition (DAQ) systems for road load, component, and durability testing.
- Interface onboard vehicle data systems (e.g., CAN) with external sensors.
- Perform calibration, validation, and preventative maintenance of instrumentation.
Essential Duties and Job Functions
- Install and configure instrumentation per engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on sensors and DAQ equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, and mechanical issues related to instrumentation and wiring.
- Maintain accurate records for sensor deployment, wiring, calibrations, and troubleshooting activities.
- Collaborate with engineers and test teams to select and position sensors based on test objectives.
- Support on-vehicle and component-level testing activities.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, soldering, wiring, and harness fabrication.
- Hands-on experience with physical sensors such as strain gauges and accelerometers.
- Experience with commercial data acquisition hardware and software (experience with MARS Labs preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in instrumentation and data acquisition in R&D, testing, or manufacturing environments.
- Prior experience in automotive, aerospace, or heavy equipment industries preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Education & Experience
- Technical degree or equivalent hands-on experience in instrumentation, electronics, or related field preferred.
Working Conditions
- Primarily onsite.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Flexibility to work occasional overtime or off-shifts to meet testing schedules.
