Our medical device client is looking for a R&D Engineer Tech to support engineering activities within a surgical R&D lab environment, specifically focusing on testing heart valve products and related accessories. The role involves a combination of technical equipment use, lab operations, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure product feasibility and verification testing are conducted per ISO standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide range of engineering support activities including testing, equipment troubleshooting, and fixture design.
- Execute feasibility studies and verification testing using specialized lab equipment such as tensile testers, SEMs, X-ray machines, and hydrodynamic testers.
- Manage and maintain lab assets including calibration, preventive maintenance, and service tracking.
- Collect, analyze, and document test data; assist in identifying failure modes and proposing technical solutions.
- Support test method validations and participate in test execution for IQs and other validation activities.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians across departments to drive continuous improvement and ensure lab readiness.
Essential Duties and Functions: - Operate and manage complex test equipment and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Train, coach, and guide junior staff in lab procedures and best practices.
- Assist in prototype development, fixture creation, and basic CAD tasks.
- Maintain adherence to environmental, health, and safety protocols, particularly those related to medical device testing environments.
Education & Experience: - Associate’s degree or technical certificate with 4+ years of experience in R&D or medical device labs, OR
- 6+ years of relevant hands-on experience in a similar technical setting.
Required Skills: - Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with lab and testing equipment (tensile testers, SEM, fatigue testers, etc.).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and technical problem-solving.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Working knowledge of ISO standards and quality systems.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite and comfortable with digital tools and documentation.
Nice-to-Have Skills: - Previous medical device industry experience.
- Experience with hydrodynamic and accelerated wear testing.
- Familiarity with SEM and 3D printing technology.
- Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and ECR systems.
