This role provides planning, direction, and oversight for construction contractor craft, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical advisors, and operations personnel in the safe commissioning, execution, and testing of functional systems at new power plant projects.
Acts as a subject matter expert in equipment and/or operations for the assigned discipline, while also providing hands-on training to operational staff.
As the SCADA Applications Engineer (Owner’s Representative), you will work on behalf of a leading renewable energy developer to develop, integrate, and commission SCADA systems that control renewable power plants.
Preferred Background
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or Automation Systems, or related education with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) experience
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Experience in SCADA programming and commissioning
Preferred Skills & Knowledge
- Commissioning and integration of SCADA systems
- Control system architecture and PLC programming
- Familiarity with Ignition, OPC protocol, and SCADA historian
- Understanding of automation protocols (Modbus, DNP3, CAN, OPC, EtherNet/IP, etc.)
- RTU-to-RTU interface and programming
- Project scheduling and planning
- Electrical and communications plan-set interpretation
- AC and DC circuit knowledge with troubleshooting ability
- Knowledge of utility meters, substation RTAC, and protection relays
- Experience with managed switches (Hirschmann, MOXA, Cisco, etc.)
- Networking, cybersecurity, and firewalls
- Renewable energy SCADA and control systems
- 0–10V and 4–20 mA loop troubleshooting
- Ability to read SCADA and communication schematics/drawings
- Project management experience with multiple consultants, vendors, and EPCs
- Third-party firm management experience
Key Responsibilities
- Integrate, program, commission, and test power plant SCADA systems and RTUs
- Work with project specifications to integrate renewable power plants into SCADA systems for grid control
- Collaborate with internal teams and subcontractors to set priorities, achieve milestones, and meet schedules
- Plan and coordinate vendor activities to achieve deliverables across the project portfolio
- Design, integrate, program, commission, and test power plant controllers and SCADA for photovoltaic and energy storage systems
- Review and provide feedback on SCADA engineering designs
- Prepare and deliver progress reports (daily, weekly, monthly) to management
