Senior Pensions Data Technician

Up to £45,000 per annum + 2.5% bonus Job
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will manage and support a variety of pensions-related data projects within the Scheme Events team. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and delivering cyclical pension scheme events and data processing projects.
- Performing technical pension calculations and reviewing the work of junior technicians.
- Managing bulk data uploads, transformations, and reporting.
- Supporting internal stakeholders and external clients to ensure accurate, compliant outcomes. Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Perform complex extraction, transformation, and cleansing of pensions data.
- Lead the delivery of assigned scheme events and ensure compliance with service level agreements.
- Conduct technical pension calculations, benefit reconciliations, and bulk data analysis.
- Build and enhance Excel templates and macros to support regular project work.
- Review outputs from junior team members and provide coaching and quality assurance.
- Run, interpret, and format reports and data extracts from pension administration systems.
- Test and validate communications and calculations before bulk processing.
- Create and maintain clear audit trails in line with internal best practices.
- Collaborate with project managers and scheme event leads to ensure timely delivery.
- Identify risks or compliance issues and escalate appropriately.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Defined Benefit (DB) pension schemes and scheme legislation.
- Experience with technical pensions calculations and project-based delivery.
- Advanced Excel skills, including:
o Formulas, VLOOKUP, nested IF statements, pivot tables, and macros
o Date calculations, data formatting, and data validation
o Importing text files and manipulating bulk datasets - Solid understanding of pension administration systems and data workflows.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and compliance.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Confidence interacting with internal and external stakeholders in a remote setting.
- Team-focused mindset, with a willingness to coach and support junior colleagues.
- Education & Experience:
- A-Level Maths or a degree with a mathematical/analytical focus, or equivalent experience.
- 1–2+ years of experience working with DB pension schemes (essential).
- Prior experience as a Senior Pensions Administrator or Data Technician.
- Familiarity with pension regulations and industry compliance standards (e.g., FCA, TCF).
- PMI qualifications or working toward certification (desirable).
