Our client, a utility company, is seeking a Technical Editor/Documentation Specialist to research, prepare, and edit complex technical and regulatory documents in support of engineering, compliance, and operations teams. This role ensures all documentation meets editorial, customer, and regulatory specifications while adhering to established standards for quality, graphics, format, and style, working closely with engineers, illustrators, and subject matter experts to deliver accurate, audit-ready materials.




Job Responsibilities: In this role, you will manage and support a variety of projects within the Engineering and Regulatory Documentation department. Key responsibilities include:

  • Researching, preparing, and editing complex technical and regulatory documents, including engineering specifications, compliance filings, and safety procedures
  • Ensuring documents meet editorial, customer, and regulatory specifications and adhere to quality, graphics, format, and style standards
  • Interfacing with engineers, writers, illustrators, word processors, and subject matter experts to coordinate and prepare edited drafts
  • Participating in the publishing of formatted documentation across various media, including print, digital, and regulatory submission portals
  • Maintaining current knowledge of relevant technical and regulatory subject matter as assigned (e.g., grid operations, infrastructure projects, safety standards)
  • Participating as an active member of engineering or capital project teams
  • Tracking project documentation through the full lifecycle, including creation, approval, publication, and update, with attention to audit and compliance trails

Essential Job Duties and Job Functions:

  • Review, edit, and refine technical and regulatory content for clarity, accuracy, and compliance
  • Coordinate with engineers, compliance staff, and external stakeholders to gather and incorporate feedback
  • Apply established style guides, formatting standards, and industry conventions (e.g., IEEE) across all documentation
  • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, meeting regulatory deadlines and quality benchmarks
  • Support the end-to-end document lifecycle, from initial draft through final publication, regulatory submission, and revisions
  • Stay current on technical and regulatory subject matter relevant to assigned infrastructure or grid projects
  • Collaborate with engineering and project teams to ensure documentation aligns with project goals, safety requirements, and compliance timelines

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong technical writing and editing skills, with close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity with utility/energy industry documentation standards (e.g., NERC CIP, FERC, state PUC filing requirements, OSHA, IEEE formatting conventions)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, illustrators, compliance teams, and production staff
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and track documentation through various lifecycle and audit stages
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical/engineering concepts for varied audiences
  • Comfort working across multiple media and publishing formats, including regulatory submission systems

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Engineering, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Prior experience in technical editing, documentation, or regulatory/compliance writing
  • Experience in the utility, energy, or infrastructure sector strongly preferred
  • Experience working within a structured engineering or capital project team environment preferred
