Position Summary
This position is responsible for the management of design for assigned transmission generation tie lines for Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage, as well as stand-alone transmission line projects. The role supports large-scale transmission infrastructure initiatives for a leading renewables company, an organization engaged in the development and execution of complex energy projects across North America.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Manage the design of transmission line projects within the Engineering & Construction (E&C) Group from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution)
- Provide oversight and direction to engineering consultants performing transmission line design; responsibilities are limited to transmission lines only
- Collaborate with the Early Stage Project Manager and Development Group during the conceptual phase to define and influence project requirements and scope
- Support projects initiated as FERC 1000 competitive transmission proposals or greenfield projects for affiliated entities
- Secure engineering consulting resources by developing scopes of work, obtaining bids, evaluating proposals, and awarding work through the Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to develop and secure routing, engineering data, and permits required to design and construct transmission lines, including geotechnical and lidar data
- Competitively source, select, and contract geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services
- Support the E&C Cost Estimating Team by providing scope assumptions
- Coordinate engineering deliverables for competitive proposals and project execution, including Issued for Bid, Issued for Procurement, Issued for Construction, and As-built drawings
- Develop and review design criteria and contribute to proposal and RFP documentation
- Represent internal and external engineering interests on assigned projects through presentations and briefings on project progress, issues, and risk mitigation with various levels of management
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering
- Minimum of 7 years of direct experience in the development, design, engineering, and construction of high-voltage transmission line projects
- Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience preferred
- PMP and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus
- Ability and willingness to travel within North America
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of transmission line design principles
- Excellent communication and project management skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities with a bias for action
- Ability to provide value engineering while ensuring design quality
- Technical competence in reviewing and understanding one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan and profile drawings, and other common deliverables
