Battery Energy Storage Project Engineer
We are seeking a Battery Energy Storage Project Engineer to support the planning, design and execution of large-scale energy storage projects. This role will provide engineering oversight throughout the project lifecycle and work across multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound, high-quality energy storage solutions.
The successful candidate will have an engineering background with experience in battery energy storage, solar/PV, power electronics, substations or related power generation infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the engineering and design of major components for utility-scale battery energy storage projects.
- Provide engineering oversight throughout project development, design and execution.
- Review engineering drawings and studies, identify inconsistencies or technical issues, and develop appropriate solutions.
- Prepare technical scopes of work for engineering and construction contracts.
- Support projects from inception through completion in partnership with project managers and engineering teams.
- Manage engineering milestones, monitor technical progress and identify project risks.
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers and vendors to integrate major equipment into project designs.
- Support technical specifications and procurement requirements for major equipment.
- Work across engineering, project management, construction and other disciplines to resolve technical issues and integrate systems and controls.
- Support permitting requirements and recommend improvements to project and site designs.
- Provide technical input and recommendations across cross-functional project teams.
- Travel approximately 25% for project-specific requirements.
Preferred Experience
- 3+ years of experience in Solar/PV engineering, construction, energy storage or a related power engineering environment.
- Experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly desirable.
- Technical expertise in one or more of the following: power electronics, battery storage system design, substation design or generation tie design.
- Knowledge of energy storage technologies including battery chemistries, power conversion equipment and DC/DC converters.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery and energy storage safety standards including UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E and NEC.
- Familiarity with relevant IEC standards including IEC 61215, IEC 61646 and IEC 61730.
- Ability to independently manage specialized technical engineering tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with project managers, engineers, suppliers and other cross-functional stakeholders.

- Work Arrangement: Onsite, 5 days per week
- Contract Length: 12 months
- Pay Rate: Up to $52.96 per hour
