JOB TITLE: Commissioning & Repair Technician

LOCATION: Avon, NY

SCHEDULE: Full-time

DURATION: 4 Months

PAY:$44-49/hr


Job Responsibilities:

In this role, you will support the commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of distributed generation (DG) solar facilities across multiple sites. Key responsibilities include:

  • Execute commissioning plans for new DG solar installations, including inverter startup, tracker system verification, SCADA/communications validation, and utility interconnection testing.
  • Diagnose and repair issues with PV modules, inverters, combiner boxes, solar trackers, motor control cards, and balance-of-system components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair single-axis tracker systems (Valmont and similar platforms), including motor replacement, MCC card diagnostics, and RMA processing.
  • Perform testing and inspection of AC/DC electrical systems including string testing, IV curve tracing, thermal imaging, and grounding verification.
  • Maintain accurate commissioning records, as-built markups, punch lists, and repair logs; submit RMA forms and support warranty claims.
  • Follow OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards, including arc flash PPE requirements and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors and subcontractors during commissioning and repair activities, providing technical oversight.
  • Communicate daily site status, outstanding issues, and completion milestones to the project management team.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Hands-on experience in solar PV installation, commissioning, or repair.
  • Working knowledge of DC and AC electrical systems up to medium voltage.
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment: multimeters, clamp meters, IV curve tracers, meggers.
  • Familiarity with single-axis tracker platforms (Valmont, Terrasmart, Array Technologies).
  • Experience with SCADA/remote monitoring systems (Also Energy preferred).
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and across large field sites.
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with contractors and project teams.
  • Adherence to safety procedures and regulatory standards.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Solar Energy, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in solar PV installation or commissioning.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Preferred: NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) or Associate certification, OSHA 10/30 certification, experience on brownfield/landfill sites.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk and work across large field sites in various terrain.
