Position Overview
Join one of the world's largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developers as a Commissioning Manager – Analytics. This role is responsible for leading the commissioning, startup, testing, and performance validation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and solar-coupled power systems.
As the Owner's Representative, you will oversee commissioning activities, ensure compliance with project requirements, coordinate testing with contractors and vendors, and support system performance through remote SCADA monitoring. This position combines remote work with occasional travel to project sites throughout the United States.
Travel
- Up to 25% travel within the United States for project commissioning and testing
- Approximately 75% remote, supporting projects through SCADA monitoring and system analytics
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineering degree or equivalent professional experience in electrical power systems
- Experience commissioning:
- Minimum 100 MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems or
- At least five (5) utility-scale Energy Storage System (ESS) projects
- Required experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Experience with SCADA systems preferred

- Installation and startup of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery technology, performance, and system integration
- Experience developing commissioning processes and procedures

Key Responsibilities
Commissioning & Startup
- Lead commissioning activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Develop commissioning schedules based on mechanical completion milestones
- Coordinate startup and commissioning activities with project teams
- Execute Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) alongside SCADA integrators and commissioning teams
- Perform OEM commissioning and acceptance testing
Testing & Performance Validation
Support and coordinate:
- Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) testing
- Generator Interconnection Agreement (GIA) testing
- ISO performance testing
- Plant balancing activities
- Capacity testing
- Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) notifications and testing support
- Automatic Generation Control (AGC) notifications and testing support
SCADA & Controls
- Support ICCP, IT, and SCADA teams during functional testing
- Coordinate with SCADA Project Managers and integrators
- Assist with CEWIS Critical Point Checkout activities
- Verify ROCC alarm functionality and PGD checks
- Provide ongoing remote monitoring and operational support through SCADA systems
Safety & Compliance
- Participate in project safety programs and site audits
- Ensure commissioning activities comply with project requirements and industry standards
- Act as the Owner's Representative during commissioning and startup activities
Analytics & Reporting
- Manage test energy forecasts with customers
- Monitor and review plant performance data
- Identify system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions
- Prepare commissioning status reports and communicate project updates to stakeholders
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience commissioning utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems and possesses a strong background in electrical power systems, SCADA integration, and performance testing. This individual is comfortable working independently in a remote environment while traveling to project sites as needed and collaborating with cross-functional engineering, operations, and customer teams.
