Role Overview
A leading international law firm is seeking a Data Steward Manager to supervise and support a team of Data Stewards responsible for maintaining the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of client and matter data across firmwide systems.
The role plays a critical part in supporting compliance, billing, reporting, and business development activities by ensuring high-quality data governance standards are maintained across multiple databases.
This position requires strong leadership capability, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and a solid understanding of data governance frameworks within a professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and manage the day-to-day workload of the Data Steward team
- Ensure service levels and internal SLAs are met
- Support training, development and performance management of team members
Data Governance & Quality
- Oversee data cleansing and maintenance across client and matter databases
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency and compliance with internal standards
- Conduct regular housekeeping tasks across relevant systems
- Promote and embed best practice data governance principles
- Support alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR)
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with Risk, Finance, Business Development and other business services teams
- Address data quality issues in partnership with key stakeholders
- Support data management activities relating to client onboarding and development
- Assist with data alignment during merger or integration activities
Process Improvement
- Review and enhance processes and procedures to drive efficiency
- Support the development and documentation of standardised data processes
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the data function
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience in data governance, data management or information governance
- Experience working within a law firm or professional services environment
- Strong understanding of data quality standards and regulatory compliance (e.g. GDPR)
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to manage workload effectively and delegate appropriately
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Desirable
- Experience supervising or mentoring team members
- Familiarity with legal practice management and compliance systems
- Experience working in a matrixed or complex organisational structure
- Relevant qualifications or certifications (e.g. DAMA, CDMP)
