Electrical Distribution Reliability Engineer
We are seeking an Electrical Distribution Reliability Engineer to support electric utility distribution reliability and engineering projects. This position will evaluate distribution system performance, identify opportunities for reliability improvement, and develop technical recommendations and project proposals.
The role is ideal for an Electrical Engineer with experience or academic/early-career exposure to power systems, electrical distribution, utility engineering, or power system studies.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate electrical distribution circuits with high SAIDI/CAIDI performance indicators to identify potential reliability improvement projects.
- Perform engineering analysis, gather system data and complete calculations to develop technically sound conclusions and recommendations.
- Support power system and electrical distribution studies.
- Prepare and present reliability improvement project proposals and technical recommendations.
- Prepare or assist with engineering designs, specifications, standards, studies and cost estimates.
- Evaluate engineering requests to determine project purpose, scope and technical requirements.
- Coordinate small engineering projects and tasks, including scope, budget, schedule, permitting, design and material procurement.
- Work with internal engineering teams, technical specialists, consultants and contractors to support successful project delivery.
- Interpret applicable state and federal codes, industry standards and engineering specifications.
- Support the development and maintenance of engineering standards, specifications and procedures.
- Communicate complex electrical and engineering concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Approximately 1.5+ years of progressively responsible engineering experience.
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems and power system engineering.
- Understanding of engineering studies, calculations and technical analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status where required for the Engineer II classification.
Preferred Background
- Electrical Engineering degree or relevant electrical/power engineering experience.
- Utility, electric distribution or power systems experience.
- Familiarity with distribution reliability metrics such as SAIDI and CAIDI.
- Experience developing engineering recommendations, project scopes or technical presentations.
Contract Details
- Location: San Clemente, CA
- Schedule: Monday–Thursday onsite; Friday remote
- Hours: 7:00 AM–4:00 PM PT
- Contract: 2 years
- Pay: $54.28 per hour
