Job Overview
The Energy Storage Engineer will plan, design, and execute complex energy storage and renewable projects — including utility-scale solar, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), and power plant operations. This role provides technical leadership and engineering oversight from concept to completion, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and innovation across all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage engineering projects in solar, BESS, and renewable power generation.
- Provide high-level technical oversight and ensure adherence to industry standards, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and review detailed engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Identify and resolve inconsistencies in project plans and specifications.
- Mentor and guide multi-disciplinary engineering teams to ensure technical excellence.
- Prepare scopes of work and manage supplier and vendor integration for equipment and systems.
- Support permitting, compliance, and design improvement initiatives.
- Partner with project managers to track milestones, manage risks, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Conduct advanced technical analyses related to system integration, grid optimization, and infrastructure resilience.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, standards, and best practices in renewable energy and storage systems.
- Travel up to 25% for site assessments and supplier coordination.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification strongly preferred.
Experience:
- 15+ years of experience designing and managing large-scale energy projects (solar, BESS, wind, or hydrogen).
- Proven expertise in system integration, grid design, and risk management.
Preferred Skills:
- 3+ years in Solar/PV engineering and/or construction.
- Knowledge of power electronics, battery storage system design, and substation/generation tie design.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery safety standards (UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NEC).
- Strong technical communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
