JOB TITLE: Energy Storage Project Engineer

LOCATION: Juno Beach, FL

SCHEDULE: Full-time

DURATION: 12 Months

PAY:$62-67hr


Job Responsibilities:

In this role, you will plan, design, and manage utility-scale energy storage projects, providing technical expertise and project support across all phases. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design phase and engineering major components for large-scale energy storage projects.
  • Recognizing inconsistencies in engineering drawings, taking corrective action, and improving design quality and efficiency.
  • Identifying and resolving errors in engineering studies and recommending solutions.
  • Preparing technical scopes of work for contracts.
  • Supporting projects from inception to completion by collaborating closely with project managers and influencing project teams on engineering tasks.
  • Managing project milestones, recognizing risks, and tracking progress and technical issues.
  • Collaborating with suppliers to integrate major equipment and working with diverse teams to solve problems and integrate systems.
  • Understanding specifications for major equipment procurement, ensuring clear communication, and proposing solutions.
  • Ensuring compliance with permitting requirements and proposing site design improvements.
  • Traveling up to 25% for project-specific duties.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Conduct technical due diligence, analyze data, and propose battery energy storage solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to maximize system performance.
  • Apply engineering principles to improve project execution and system reliability.
  • Support construction oversight, including foundations, trenching, electrical terminations, and testing, while adhering to safety best practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of energy storage technologies, including battery chemistries, power conversion units, DC-DC converters, and lithium-ion battery safety standards (UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, NEC, IFC/IBC).
  • Review interconnection studies and modify GIA materials, particularly in WECC and CAISO regions.
  • Collaborate on construction permitting, contracting, and integration of large-scale power systems.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in substation or utility-scale energy storage design and/or project management.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, battery storage system design, substation design, generation tie design, and data centers.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for large-scale power generation or processing plants.
  • Hands-on experience with construction methods and adherence to safety practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to convey technical and non-technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate engineering resources, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., CAD) and project management tools.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven engineering experience in energy storage or related utility-scale projects.
  • Subject matter expertise in energy storage systems, battery safety, substation or utility-scale project design preferred.
