Interconnection Engineer

Location: Juno Beach, FL or Remote

Schedule: Standard Office Hours

Duration: 12-Month Contract

Pay Rate:$44-49/hr




About the Role

We are seeking an Interconnection Engineer to support interconnection-related engineering activities across multiple projects. This role will work closely with internal teams and external transmission stakeholders to manage deliverables from interconnection application through Commercial Operation Date (COD). The ideal candidate will become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned ISO regions and help ensure all engineering, contractual, and operational requirements are met for successful plant interconnection.

Key Responsibilities

Interconnection & Contract Management

  • Review draft Purchase Power Agreements (PPAs) and Interconnection Agreements (IAs) for assigned regions.
  • Assess technical and schedule impacts of agreement requirements and communicate findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Track key deliverables and milestones tied to PPAs and IAs.
  • Monitor interconnection queue position milestones and provide monthly reporting.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Interface with Transmission Owners (TOs), Independent System Operators (ISOs), and PPA clients to align all deliverables required for physical connection, synchronization, and COD.
  • Coordinate with corporate, engineering, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure all submittals are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support joint testing activities and serve as a point of contact for external transmission-related entities.

Technical Oversight

  • Ensure plant design aligns with technical requirements outlined in PPAs and IAs.
  • Communicate changes in ISO requirements that may affect project execution.
  • Review technical contract requirements tied to grid interconnection and generation systems.
  • Provide weekly status reporting on interconnection submittals and critical path activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ISO tariffs, pro forma and non-pro forma contracts.
  • Familiarity with NERC and FERC technical standards related to generation and transmission interconnection.
  • Experience with CAISO and ERCOT interconnection processes.
  • Strong contract interpretation skills, especially for PPAs and Interconnection Agreements.
  • Experience reviewing technical contracts within the electric power grid industry.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage critical external deliverables.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with utility/offtaker entities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Electrical Engineering, preferably with emphasis in Power Systems Engineering.
  • Professional experience in interconnection engineering.
  • Understanding of SCADA systems preferred.
  • Understanding of electrical metering concepts and devices preferred.
