The Laboratory Coordinator supports day-to-day Biology, Chemistry, and Microbiology laboratory operations, with a primary focus on glassware preparation, inventory and supply management, sample handling, and laboratory documentation. This role helps ensure laboratory materials, samples, equipment, and records are properly maintained in accordance with established safety, quality, and operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash, decontaminate, rinse, dry, inspect, and organize laboratory glassware and reusable supplies.
- Operate, clean, and maintain supporting laboratory equipment, including autoclaves and dishwashers.
- Prepare test supplies and materials for laboratory activities.
- Monitor inventory levels and perform routine inventory counts.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and identify supply replenishment needs.
- Submit and track supply orders, receive deliveries, rotate stock, and monitor expiration dates.
- Receive, label, log, stage, store, distribute, transfer, and dispose of laboratory samples according to established procedures.
- Maintain sample identification, condition, documentation, and traceability throughout handling activities.
- Maintain clean, organized, and orderly laboratory work and storage areas.
- Complete required laboratory documentation, including cleaning logs, inventory records, sample records, and equipment charts.
- Verify and replace temperature charts on laboratory equipment on a routine basis.
- Enter routine information into approved laboratory systems.
- Monitor laboratory workload and priorities and provide support across Biology, Chemistry, and Microbiology laboratory areas as needed.
- Follow applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety requirements, quality guidelines, and cleanroom/manufacturing procedures.
Qualifications
- Secondary education/high school diploma or equivalent.
- 0–2 years of laboratory, inventory, materials-handling, or related experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory processes.
- Basic computer skills.
- Basic mathematical skills, including decimals and percentages.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and speak German.
- Basic ability to read and comprehend English.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to comply with applicable environmental health and safety, quality, and cleanroom requirements.
