Job Description
Workface Planner, Industrial EPC Construction
Location:
Texas (remote or hybrid, with about 40% travel to project sites in Texas)
About the Company
Hydrogen Group is partnering with one of the largest direct-hire industrial construction and EPC contractors in the U.S. They self-perform turnkey projects across power generation, refining, gas processing, chemical and petrochemical, hydrogen, and heavy industrial markets, from groundbreaking through commissioning and startup. Because they self-perform, planning directly supports their own crews. They’re growing quickly and adding an experienced Workface Planner to support active projects across Texas.
The Role
The Workface Planner makes sure field crews have everything they need before work starts: approved drawings, materials, tools, equipment, scaffold, access, permits, and safety and quality requirements. You’ll work directly with superintendents, general foremen, field engineering, project controls, procurement, and quality to build executable work packages, clear constraints, and keep work moving from release through closeout.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain Construction Work Packages (CWPs) and Installation Work Packages (IWPs) in line with AWP and workface planning processes
- Break scope down by area, discipline, system, or construction sequence using drawings, specifications, P&IDs, isometrics, and general arrangements
- Support the 6-week lookahead, 3-week lookahead, and weekly work plan
- Align packages with schedule activities, quantities, phase codes, and progress rules alongside Project Controls
- Confirm materials are identified, ordered, received, and staged, and that drawings and documents are current
- Identify, track, and escalate constraints, and maintain package logs, constraint logs, and readiness checklists
- Run readiness reviews and prepare packages for field release
- Track package progress, field feedback, and remaining work, and support closeout including QC documentation and redlines
- Find opportunities to improve sequencing, readiness, and workflow on active projects
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years in industrial construction, EPC, power generation, LNG, refining, petrochemical, data center, or heavy industrial work
- Hands-on workface planning, AWP, or IWP development experience, ideally on the contractor side
- Background in construction planning, field engineering, project controls, or material coordination
- Ability to read construction drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and discipline-specific documents
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, short-interval planning, and field execution
- Strong Excel skills; P6 or MS Project, Bluebeam, and Procore, ACC, or similar a plus
- Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred; equivalent field experience considered
Preferred
- Power generation or combined cycle experience (LNG and petrochemical also highly valued)
- AWP software experience (ConstructSim, O3, or similar)
- Craft or field supervision background
Benefits
- Weekly pay
- Medical, dental, vision, and short- and long-term disability
- 401(k) with company match, vested on day one
- Employee stock purchase plan
- Pet and legal assistance coverage
- Award-winning safety programs
