Power Systems Engineer III
Remote (United States), 12 Month Contract
Standard Office Hours (EST), up to $52.96/hour
We are seeking a highly motivated Power Systems Engineer III to support engineering activities across renewable energy and transmission infrastructure projects. This position will play a key role in power system analysis, transmission planning, generation interconnection studies, and electrical system modelling supporting large-scale renewable energy developments.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, construction, utility, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure project compliance, reliability, and successful grid integration.
Key Responsibilities
• Create, develop, and validate PSS®E and PSCAD models for transmission and generation projects.
• Perform and review steady-state, dynamic, short circuit, and transient power system studies.
• Conduct transmission line design studies including:
- Line energization studies
- Switching overvoltage analysis
- Shunt reactor sizing
- Auto-reclosing evaluations
- System reliability assessments
• Support renewable energy interconnection processes and provide technical guidance throughout project development.
• Collaborate with ISOs, utilities, transmission operators, and regulatory agencies to facilitate interconnection approvals.
• Ensure compliance with regional modelling requirements and applicable industry standards.
• Develop software tools and analytical solutions to improve system reliability and engineering efficiency.
• Contribute technical expertise to innovative transmission and renewable energy projects.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and engineering documentation.
• Participate in project meetings and communicate technical findings to internal and external stakeholders.
• Support additional engineering activities as required.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience using power system analysis software including:
- PSS®E
- PSCAD
- Aspen OneLiner
- TSAT
- GE PSLF
• Strong understanding of:
- Power flow analysis
- Voltage stability
- Dynamic system performance
- Reactive power compensation
- Grid interconnection requirements
• Knowledge of utility and ISO interconnection procedures across North America.
• Excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience
• Renewable energy project experience.
• Transmission planning and grid integration experience.
• Utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage, or transmission project exposure.
• Experience working directly with utilities, ISOs, and transmission operators.
