About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Energy Storage Engineer to support the engineering, design and execution of large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and renewable energy infrastructure projects.

This is an opportunity to contribute to utility-scale energy storage developments, working alongside multidisciplinary engineering, construction and project management teams to deliver technically robust, safe and efficient energy storage solutions.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical engineering expertise, experience supporting complex energy projects and the ability to independently resolve design and engineering challenges throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Energy Storage Engineering & Design

  • Support the design, engineering and technical development of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

  • Provide engineering oversight for major equipment and components, including battery storage systems, power conversion equipment and associated electrical infrastructure.

  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications and design documentation to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.

  • Evaluate engineering studies, identify technical risks and develop practical solutions to improve system performance and reliability.

  • Support the integration of energy storage technologies with renewable generation assets, substations and associated electrical infrastructure.

Project Engineering & Delivery

  • Collaborate with project managers and cross-functional engineering teams to support projects from initial development through execution and completion.

  • Prepare technical scopes of work, engineering specifications and supporting documentation for equipment procurement and contractor agreements.

  • Monitor engineering milestones, project deliverables and technical risks to support successful project execution.

  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers and engineering consultants to ensure effective integration of major equipment.

  • Provide technical input into engineering decisions, design modifications and project improvement opportunities.

Technical Compliance & Safety

  • Support engineering compliance with applicable industry codes, electrical safety standards and energy storage requirements.

  • Review design considerations relating to lithium-ion battery storage, electrical safety, fire protection and system integration.

  • Contribute to permitting activities by identifying technical requirements, potential challenges and opportunities for site design improvements.

  • Support the development of engineering solutions that improve safety, constructability, reliability and operational performance.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in engineering design, project engineering or technical delivery within the renewable energy, electrical power or energy storage sectors.

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and complex energy infrastructure systems.

  • Experience reviewing technical drawings, engineering studies, equipment specifications and engineering deliverables.

  • Ability to independently manage specialised engineering tasks, investigate technical issues and recommend solutions.

  • Strong project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% for project-specific activities.

Preferred Qualifications & Technical Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in solar photovoltaic (PV) engineering and/or construction.

  • Experience with utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or renewable energy infrastructure.

  • Technical expertise in one or more of the following:

    • Battery energy storage system design

    • Power electronics and power conversion systems (PCS)

    • Substation engineering and electrical infrastructure

    • Generation tie-in design and electrical integration

  • Familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies, battery chemistries, DC/DC converters and associated equipment.

  • Knowledge of applicable battery energy storage and electrical safety standards, including UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A, NFPA 855, NFPA 70E and the National Electrical Code (NEC).

  • Familiarity with relevant building and fire codes, including applicable IFC and IBC requirements.

  • Exposure to IEC 61215, IEC 61646 and IEC 61730 standards.

  • Experience coordinating technical requirements with equipment suppliers, engineering consultants and project stakeholders.

Why Apply?

  • Competitive hourly compensation: Up to $67.94 per hour.

  • Remote working: Work remotely with travel for project-specific engineering activities.

  • 12-month contract: Contribute to major utility-scale energy infrastructure projects.

  • Technically challenging work: Support advanced battery storage technologies and renewable energy integration.

  • Collaborative environment: Work alongside experienced engineering, construction and project delivery professionals.
