Construction Project Manager
Data Centers | Mission Critical & Large-Scale Infrastructure
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Hydrogen Group is actively sourcing experienced Construction Project Managers to support mission critical and large-scale data center construction programs across the US. These are contract roles supporting owner/operator and program management clients with active, concurrent construction pipelines at scale.
This is not a general construction PM role. Candidates must bring direct, hands-on experience managing mission critical or data center construction programs in technically complex, high-stakes environments. Experience working on owner-side or program management teams is strongly preferred over GC-only backgrounds.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
– Manage one or more hyperscale data center construction projects simultaneously, from inception through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover to operations
– Direct internal stakeholders across Design, Procurement, Operations, Security, and IT/Network, as well as external vendors including GCs, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, and equipment suppliers
– Manage and monitor project progress, quality, budget, schedule, and compliance with building regulations and internal controls throughout the full program lifecycle
– Administer contracts including generation, review, and monitoring of prime contracts, subcontracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and project documentation
– Oversee and maintain project risk registers; identify, track, and mitigate risks at each stage of delivery
– Coordinate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction, local utilities, and relevant state agencies as required
– Lead by example on safety, quality standards, and program culture across all site activities and teams
– Manage project closure, handover, and lessons learned processes through to completion
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, construction management, or a related field — or commensurate hands-on experience
– 5+ years of experience specifically in mission critical construction project management — data center, pharmaceutical/life sciences, or equivalent critical infrastructure
– Direct experience in an owner/operator or major program management environment within the mission critical sector
– Demonstrated experience managing large-scale, multi-building or multi-phase programs from inception through commissioning and operational handover
– Strong command of contract administration — prime contracts, subcontracts, change orders, cost forecasting, and project controls documentation
– Familiarity with BICSI, ASHRAE, and TIA-942 standards applicable to data center construction environments
– Experience coordinating with AHJs, local utilities, and state regulatory agencies across multiple US markets
– Proven track record leading a safety-first culture across technically complex program environments
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– PMP certification or DBIA accreditation
– 10+ years of mission critical or data center construction experience
– Experience on hyperscale programs — multi-building, multi-market, or 100MW+ campuses
– Proficiency with Procore, MS Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent construction management platforms
– Experience across both shell/core and fit-out phases of data center delivery
– Life sciences or pharmaceutical construction background
TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT
Program complexity
– Critical power and cooling systems — UPS, generators, CRAC/CRAH, chillers
– Commissioning and integrated systems testing (Cx/IST) processes
– Construction adjacent to live, operational mission critical environments
– Tier II–IV design and operational standards (Uptime Institute)
Delivery model
– Multi-vendor coordination across GC, A&E, commissioning agents, and equipment suppliers
– Accelerated program timelines with strict milestone and delivery windows
– Multi-market or multi-campus concurrent program delivery across the US
– Programs ranging from $120M single-building builds to $10B+ multi-phase campuses
