JOB TITLE: Hardware Validation Engineer

LOCATION: Palo Alto, CA – Onsite (Bay Area)

SCHEDULE: Standard working hours

DURATION: 12-month contract

PAY: 50-54 USD/per hour


Job Responsibilities:

In this role, you will manage and support a variety of projects within the Engineering Validation department. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading multiple validation projects, including:
    • Planning and executing Durability, Electrical, and Functional testing for component-level ECUs.
    • Validating Silicon-level performance (SoCs, Microcontrollers) within the ECU environment, focusing on power integrity, thermal boundaries, and signal analysis.
    • Conducting failure analysis and root cause investigations for test failures, utilizing data reproduction and fault simulation.
    • Developing comprehensive test plans, cases, and environmental strategies (DVP&R) integrating Silicon Validation data into ECU-level functional testing.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional design teams to architect and build specialized test scripts and hardware fixtures (HIL/Bench).
  • Participating in DFMEA, PFMEA, and Bill of Design (BoD) assessments to identify and mitigate risks to project timing and product quality.
  • Providing advanced data analytics from conducted tests to drive design improvements and ensure compliance with Component Technical Specifications (CTS).

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Maintain and enhance technical templates, toolboxes, and drawings to ensure a standardized validation approach across the organization.
  • Establish and manage end-to-end traceability between requirements and test results using JAMA, JIRA, and version control systems.
  • Manage “Lessons Learned” repositories to refine Bill of Materials (BoM) and improve product performance and safety.
  • Execute high-fidelity component testing, including bench-level lab measurements with oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters, and thermal chambers.
  • Collaborate across teams in a fast-paced “Engineering Ops” service model to ensure timely and accurate delivery of validation projects.
  • Interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to support testing and troubleshooting activities.
  • Program and maintain test automation tools using LabView, Test Stand, and CAPL (highly preferred).

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Proficiency in automotive communication protocols: CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and FlexRay.
  • Hands-on experience with bench-level testing equipment and thermal chambers.
  • Ability to perform complex root cause analysis and data-driven decision making.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements for testing laboratories.
  • Proficiency with JIRA and JAMA for requirement and test management.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and maintain meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capability to build productive internal/external working relationships and mentor junior engineers.

Education & Experience:

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of experience in automotive or consumer electronics, with a strong focus on electronics design and validation.
  • Strong background in Silicon-level validation and ECU component testing.
  • LabView, Test Stand, and CAPL programming skills highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols and standards.
