Position Overview
The Utility Scale Energy Storage team is seeking a Project Engineer
with a passion for renewable energy and battery storage. This role supports battery energy storage augmentation projects from concept through execution.
The engineer will plan, design, and execute multiple projects while working cross-functionally with engineering, construction, procurement, and permitting teams. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise in energy storage systems, and the ability to integrate battery technologies into existing sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed electrical, structural, and civil design engineering for utility-scale energy storage projects
- Manage multiple battery augmentation projects from concept through execution
- Develop technical scopes of work for contracts
- Collaborate with Engineers of Record, Project Managers, and construction teams
- Provide engineering oversight and technical guidance across project teams
- Support design, construction, and commissioning activities
- Work with suppliers to integrate major equipment
- Conduct technical due diligence using internal and external data
- Support energy storage strategies through technical and market analysis
- Identify value engineering and emerging technology opportunities
- Drive process improvements, tool development, and standardized practices
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Preferred Experience
Strong expertise in one or more of the following:
- Utility-scale energy storage design or project management
- Power electronics
- Battery storage system design
- Substation or generation tie design
Additional preferred experience:
- Large-scale power generation or processing plants
- Construction methods (foundations, trenching, terminations, testing)
- Battery technologies, chemistries, and power conversion systems
- Lithium-ion safety standards (UL1973, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, NEC, etc.)
- Interconnection studies and GIA/MMA processes (WECC, CAISO)
- Construction permitting and contracting
- Technical leadership and ownership of specialized objectives
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Education & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited)
- 5+ years of engineering experience
- Experience in renewable energy or energy storage environments preferred
