Safety Management System (SMS) Analyst – Hybrid | Chino, CA | 18-Month Contract | $43–47/hr
We're looking for an experienced SMS Analyst to support the implementation of safety projects and initiatives within a large-scale utility environment. This hybrid role (2 days on-site per week) offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a structured Safety Management System framework focused on proactive risk identification, mitigation, and continual improvement.
The Role
You'll work across four core SMS workstreams — Risk Management, Management of Change (MoC), Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), and Human Organisational Performance (HOP) — supporting peers with implementation activities, tracking progress, and presenting complex safety data to stakeholders at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Support SMS implementation across risk, MoC, and QA/QC workstreams, including tracking, presenting, and analysing complex safety data
- Analyse data within risk and QA/QC applications including Excel, Enablon, and PowerBI
- Identify and escalate safety issues to management as appropriate
- Apply process adjustments and improvements based on findings from risk, MoC, and QA/QC activities
- Contribute to the continual improvement of the SMS framework
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant professional, business, or technical discipline — or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- 5–7 years of experience performing or supervising a related safety, compliance, or risk management function
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently
- Experience guiding teams through process execution and deliverable management
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, including pivot tables and charts
- Confident communicator with experience presenting to senior leaders and executives
- Familiarity with Safety Management Systems frameworks
- Previous experience within an electric utility environment is advantageous
