The Senior IT Project Manager will lead all phases of a large-scale Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0 program, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout. This role oversees system integrator (SI) engagement and coordinates cross-functional IT and business activities within a complex enterprise environment. This is a hands-on role that combines strategic oversight with day-to-day project execution in a fast-paced program environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of a large-scale AMI 2.0 program across all project phases.
- Manage and coordinate system integrator (SI) activities and deliverables.
- Develop and maintain detailed resource plans, including roles, skill sets, and effort/cost estimates across multiple workstreams (integration, data, infrastructure, testing).
- Facilitate business process mapping and requirements gathering to ensure alignment between business needs and technical solutions.
- Support development of a comprehensive solution blueprint, defining scope, schedule, and budget from a technical perspective.
- Oversee technical design validation and feasibility assessments during planning and analysis phases.
- Coordinate readiness activities for the build phase, including environment setup, development sequencing, testing strategy, and deployment planning.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration between IT and business stakeholders.
- Manage risks, issues, dependencies, and program timelines to ensure successful delivery.
- Provide regular status updates and reporting to stakeholders and leadership.
- Act as a hands-on project manager, contributing directly to deliverables while overseeing broader program execution.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, computer science, or a related field (including liberal arts disciplines).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT project/program management.
- Proven experience managing large-scale IT programs, including resource planning, solution blueprinting, and end-to-end delivery.
- Experience in utilities or regulated industries.
- Exposure to AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure), smart grid, or large electric utility technology initiatives (AMI 1.0 or 2.0 preferred).
- Strong understanding of the meter-to-cash lifecycle.
- Experience with cloud migration or implementation (on-premise to cloud environments).
- Experience with system integrations (e.g., MDMS, head-end systems, OMS, SAP, ADMS).
- Broad IT infrastructure knowledge with the ability to assess and align across the full program landscape.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Ability to quickly ramp up in a large, complex program and deliver results with minimal supervision.
- Strong business and technical acumen, with the ability to bridge stakeholder needs and technology solutions.
- Experience working across both IT and business functions.
- Hands-on approach with the ability to execute PM deliverables while managing and delegating effectively.
- Adaptable and responsive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience within utility technology environments and strategic transformation initiatives.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both non-technical audiences and senior leadership.
- Experience managing large-scale data conversion efforts (millions of records).
- Strong analytical skills using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Pivot Tables.
- Background in corporate strategy, strategic planning, or management consulting.
- Experience with Octane or similar project tracking tools.
