Senior Substation Project Engineer III
Up to $52.96/hour, 12-month contract
Fully remote, Occasional travel to project sites (primarily across Florida)

A leading energy organisation is seeking a Senior Substation Project Engineer III to lead a team of engineers and technical specialists delivering high-voltage substation projects across a growing renewable energy portfolio.
This is a senior-level role suited to experienced engineers who bring both strong technical depth and proven leadership in project engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead renewable generation substation projects across full lifecycle: development, RFP, design, construction, and commissioning
- Provide leadership and direction to engineering teams and technical specialists
- Collaborate with Early-Stage Project Managers to define engineering scope and technical strategy
- Plan and manage large-scale or complex projects, including schedules, budgets, and resources
- Oversee project risks, performance tracking, and delivery milestones
- Conduct project meetings and provide reporting to senior stakeholders
- Provide technical oversight and due diligence of external Engineers of Record (EORs)
- Ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, ASCE, and all applicable engineering standards
- Lead development of scopes of work and manage contractor and consulting engagements
- Coordinate engineering deliverables (IFB, IFC, As-Built, design criteria, etc.)
- Support FERC Order 1000 RFP efforts and competitive transmission project proposals
- Interface with transmission owners, ISOs, and stakeholders to ensure interconnection compliance
- Oversee procurement strategy and management of long-lead materials
- Support estimating, cost modelling, and scope optimisation efforts
- Lead commissioning support activities and ensure successful project delivery
- Represent engineering in stakeholder meetings, presentations, and executive briefings
- Support regulatory and legal processes where required
- Collaborate with OEMs to enhance and integrate engineering solutions
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and innovations
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers and project team members
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil/Structural Engineering (preferred)
- 10–15 years of experience in substation engineering and high-voltage infrastructure projects
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex projects
- Strong background in substation design, engineering oversight, and project execution
- Experience with renewable energy or transmission infrastructure projects
- Deep understanding of IEEE, NESC, and related standards
- Experience working with EPC or utility-scale projects
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification
- PMP certification
- Six Sigma (Green/Black/Yellow Belt)
- Experience with FERC processes and interconnection requirements
