Scientist – Proteomics & Mass Spectrometry
South San Francisco, CA | 12-month contract | Onsite | $60-70/hour

We are seeking an experienced Scientist to join a highly collaborative proteomics and mass spectrometry team within a cutting-edge R&D environment.

This is a hands-on laboratory role for someone who thrives in complex, multi-disciplinary research settings and enjoys solving challenging biological and analytical problems. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in proteomics, biochemistry, and mass spectrometry-based workflows, alongside a detail-driven and organised approach to experimental work.

You will be involved in both standard and advanced proteomics techniques, including protein affinity workflows, immunoprecipitation, and enrichment strategies for post-translational modifications. The team works across a broad range of biological research areas including disease biology, immune pathways, and technology development, supporting translational and early discovery programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process biological samples from tissues, cells, and biofluids for proteomics analysis
  • Develop, optimise, and refine sample preparation workflows for protein profiling and biomarker discovery
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HPLC systems, mass spectrometers, and associated bioanalytical instrumentation
  • Analyse proteomics datasets and communicate findings to internal collaborators
  • Present experimental results in group meetings and cross-functional scientific discussions
  • Support ongoing assay development and research initiatives across multiple disease areas

Requirements

  • PhD in proteomics, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering, or a related discipline
  • Strong hands-on experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics
  • Demonstrated experience in HPLC and/or LC-MS method development and optimisation
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (HPLC and mass spectrometers)
  • Practical experience in proteomics sample preparation workflows
  • Proficiency in data analysis using R and/or Python
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills

Desirable Experience

  • Protein affinity workflows including immunoprecipitation
  • Post-translational modification enrichment and analysis
  • Laser capture microdissection (LCM)
  • Histology-related sample handling (e.g. FFPE, cryosectioning)
