As a Sustaining Reliability Laboratory Technician – Battery supporting an automotive technology client’s test facility, you will work with the Sustaining Reliability team to build, maintain, and operate laboratory environments for testing battery packs, electrified powertrain systems, electric vehicle systems, and component reliability.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with test engineers to install, configure, maintain, and support test setups across complex powertrain testing equipment.
- Execute testing activities efficiently while minimizing equipment downtime.
- Troubleshoot test failures, identify root causes, and communicate findings to test engineers.
- Prioritize and complete critical tasks while testing activities are in progress.
- Fabricate test fixtures and instrumentation using various materials and methods.
- Disassemble and reassemble production and prototype hardware.
- Provide technical support and guidance to engineering teams.
- Create and maintain electronic Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Train team members on standardized procedures and testing processes.
- Perform routine maintenance and upkeep of test equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient laboratory environment.
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings and team discussions.
- Document daily activities and work progress electronically.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrate strong time management, reliability, and accountability.
- Maintain consistent attendance and work scheduled hours.
- Support off-shift work schedules when required.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of laboratory testing equipment through:
- Associate degree in a technical/technology field, or
- Equivalent relevant hands-on experience, or
- 2+ years of technical experience.
- Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Proficiency using hand tools and power tools.
- Strong computer skills and ability to work with electronic documentation systems.
- Ability to write clear, structured Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Understanding of workplace safety practices and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with high-voltage battery systems.
- High-voltage battery safety certifications.
- Familiarity with reliability testing methods.
- Experience working in test cells or laboratory environments.
- Ability to operate forklifts and cranes.
- Experience supporting automotive, EV, battery, or powertrain testing environments.
