Technical Training Specialist | Irwindale, CA | 18-Month Contract | $39.39/hr

We're looking for an experienced Technical Training Specialist to design, develop, and deliver technical training programmes within a large-scale utility environment. This is a hands-on instructional design role where you'll work closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders to translate complex technical content into clear, effective training materials for a range of audiences.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Carry out needs assessments and job/task analyses, including facilitating focus groups and working with subject matter experts to identify training needs and business requirements
  • Research, design, and develop training scope, timelines, and deliverables — including presentations, job aids, user guides, quick reference guides, eLearning, and virtual and instructor-led training
  • Interpret and translate complex technical content such as functional specifications, test scripts, and vendor documentation into training materials for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Manage client expectations, make recommendations, and communicate project status updates throughout the training lifecycle
  • Facilitate train-the-trainer sessions
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, including scope, milestones, schedules, deliverables, and resources
  • Problem-solve and troubleshoot training roadblocks as they arise

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Instructional Design, Business, or a relevant technical discipline — or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years designing and developing systems and/or technical course materials; 7+ years preferred
  • Demonstrated experience applying instructional design principles and adult learning methodologies including ADDIE and SAM
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SnagIt, and at least one eLearning tool such as Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Captivate, or Camtasia
  • Strong critical thinking and attention to detail — able to synthesise information from multiple sources and translate it into training requirements
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including experience facilitating train-the-trainer sessions
  • Proven ability to manage shifting timelines, ambiguity, and changing requirements whilst prioritising effectively
  • Self-directed and quick to learn highly technical content

Preferred

  • Experience working within a utility company
  • Familiarity with Visio and SharePoint
  • Experience developing training within an Agile software development environment
  • Background developing training for SAP or Salesforce implementations

Contract Details

  • Location: Irwindale, CA — On-site (Potential Hybrid arrangement TBC)
  • Duration: 18 months
  • Pay Rate: $39.39/hr
