Job Responsibilities:
In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced mammalian expression systems and engineered cell lines to support the production of complex therapeutic proteins. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting projects focused on mammalian host and vector development, including:
o Engineering mammalian cell lines (stable cell line generation, targeted integration, and gene editing using CRISPR-based systems).
o Designing and generating mammalian expression vectors using state-of-the-art molecular assembly techniques.
o Developing new mammalian expression hosts and vector systems for complex recombinant protein production.
o Performing phenotypic characterization of edited cell lines using assays such as NGS, ddPCR, qPCR, and flow cytometry.
o Supporting cell culture activities including shake flask and bioreactor systems. - Collaborating closely with R&D teams, particularly Process Development and Protein Analytics, to deliver improvements in recombinant protein production.
- Executing studies to support technology and process development initiatives.
- Contributing to the development of study plans and experimental design strategies.
- Actively reviewing and applying relevant academic literature in cell engineering and expression technologies.
- Presenting experimental results through written documentation and oral reports.
- Contributing ideas and insights during scientific discussions to advance new technology development.
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Engineer and characterize mammalian cell lines to support therapeutic protein expression.
- Perform molecular biology techniques including electrophoresis, PCR, and vector construction.
- Conduct gene editing and targeted integration experiments using CRISPR-based systems.
- Design and execute experiments with appropriate statistical rigor and design of experiments (DoE) principles.
- Collate, analyze, evaluate, and sign off data to ensure traceability and quality standards are met.
- Maintain accurate, timely laboratory records in accordance with quality guidelines.
- Prepare high-quality data summaries and reports for internal stakeholders.
- Work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary R&D teams.
- Demonstrate flexibility in supporting evolving project and technology development needs.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong technical background in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture.
- Demonstrated expertise in experimental execution and data analysis.
- Working knowledge of statistics and design of experiments (DoE).
- Understanding of synthetic biology technologies (desirable).
- Experience with cell line engineering, particularly CRISPR-based systems (highly desirable).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a research-driven environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
Education & Experience:
- BSc or MSc degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, or related scientific discipline.
- Practical laboratory experience in an industrial or academic setting (preferred).
- Experience in mammalian expression system development or cell line engineering is advantageous.
