LOCATION: Cambridge (Onsite)

SCHEDULE: Standard Working Hours

DURATION: 12-Month Contract

PAY: 15.83£ per hour

Job Responsibilities:

In this role, you will contribute to the development of advanced mammalian expression systems and engineered cell lines to support the production of complex therapeutic proteins. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and supporting projects focused on mammalian host and vector development, including:

o Engineering mammalian cell lines (stable cell line generation, targeted integration, and gene editing using CRISPR-based systems).

o Designing and generating mammalian expression vectors using state-of-the-art molecular assembly techniques.

o Developing new mammalian expression hosts and vector systems for complex recombinant protein production.

o Performing phenotypic characterization of edited cell lines using assays such as NGS, ddPCR, qPCR, and flow cytometry.

o Supporting cell culture activities including shake flask and bioreactor systems.
  • Collaborating closely with R&D teams, particularly Process Development and Protein Analytics, to deliver improvements in recombinant protein production.
  • Executing studies to support technology and process development initiatives.
  • Contributing to the development of study plans and experimental design strategies.
  • Actively reviewing and applying relevant academic literature in cell engineering and expression technologies.
  • Presenting experimental results through written documentation and oral reports.
  • Contributing ideas and insights during scientific discussions to advance new technology development.

    Essential Duties and Job Functions:

  • Engineer and characterize mammalian cell lines to support therapeutic protein expression.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques including electrophoresis, PCR, and vector construction.
  • Conduct gene editing and targeted integration experiments using CRISPR-based systems.
  • Design and execute experiments with appropriate statistical rigor and design of experiments (DoE) principles.
  • Collate, analyze, evaluate, and sign off data to ensure traceability and quality standards are met.
  • Maintain accurate, timely laboratory records in accordance with quality guidelines.
  • Prepare high-quality data summaries and reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary R&D teams.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in supporting evolving project and technology development needs.

    Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong technical background in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture.
  • Demonstrated expertise in experimental execution and data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of statistics and design of experiments (DoE).
  • Understanding of synthetic biology technologies (desirable).
  • Experience with cell line engineering, particularly CRISPR-based systems (highly desirable).
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a research-driven environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.

    Education & Experience:

  • BSc or MSc degree in Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, or related scientific discipline.
  • Practical laboratory experience in an industrial or academic setting (preferred).
  • Experience in mammalian expression system development or cell line engineering is advantageous.
