The Commissioning Project Manager will oversee a portfolio of renewable energy projects (including wind, solar, and battery storage). This role is responsible for the execution of assigned power plant projects, with a focus on commissioning, start-up, and operational handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure commissioning activities are executed to a high standard while adhering to all safety policies
- Coordinate and manage EPC contractor personnel, OEM start-up teams, third-party contractors, and site operations staff during commissioning and start-up phases
- Drive project reliability at operational handover, minimizing downtime during initial plant operation
- Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations, including power purchase and grid interconnection agreements with relevant utilities
- Oversee commissioning teams across multiple sites to ensure all contractual requirements are met
- Provide subject matter expertise to support strategic planning related to safety, resourcing, quality, and efficiency improvements
- Interface with project stakeholders, including safety, engineering, and quality assurance teams
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of electrical construction and commissioning practices, including relevant industry codes and standards
- Experience with SCADA systems integration and troubleshooting
- Expertise in electrical, instrumentation, and control systems installation, start-up, and fault finding
- Knowledge of protection and control systems implementation and troubleshooting
- Experience with inverter systems and communications start-up and diagnostics
- Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) operation and troubleshooting
- Ability to conduct drawing reviews and quality inspections
- Proficient in progress reporting and documentation
- Competent in standard office and document control software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, document management tools, presentations)
- Experience managing third-party contractors, suppliers, and direct reports
- Solid understanding of project scheduling and planning
Preferred Background
- Self-motivated with a strong focus on quality, execution, and safety
- Minimum 5 years’ experience supporting on-site renewable energy project construction, start-up, and commissioning
- At least 3 years’ experience working with an EPC contractor on renewable energy projects
- Proven ability to engage with both engineering teams on technical matters and construction teams on constructability, scheduling, and cost considerations
