Commissioning Supervisor

Position Overview
The Commissioning Manager will act on behalf of the Project Owner to oversee commissioning, startup, and operational turnover activities across a portfolio of renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality project execution while coordinating multiple stakeholders to achieve successful plant energization and turnover.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning & Startup Leadership
- Lead and oversee commissioning activities for assigned renewable energy projects.
- Ensure all commissioning work is executed safely and in compliance with company and site-specific safety policies.
- Coordinate and manage EPC contractor personnel, OEM startup teams, third-party startup contractors, and operations staff during commissioning and startup.
- Manage the Client’s onsite commissioning personnel.
Operational Readiness & Reliability
- Ensure projects achieve operational turnover with high reliability and minimal lost time during initial operations.
- Oversee testing, startup, and energization to meet commercial operation milestones.
Contractual & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all project contractual requirements, including:
- Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) deliverables
- Large Generator Interconnect Agreement (LGIA) obligations
- Coordinate with Transmission Operators and Independent System Operators (ISOs) to achieve energization and grid synchronization milestones.
Technical Oversight
- Interface with designated safety, engineering, and quality control representatives.
- Review drawings and perform quality control inspections.
- Monitor and report project progress to stakeholders.
Required Technical Skillsets
- Electrical construction and commissioning means and methods (including NEC and NFPA knowledge)
- SCADA system integration and troubleshooting
- Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) controls installation, startup, and troubleshooting
- Protection and Controls implementation and diagnostics
- Drawing review and quality inspection
- Progress reporting and documentation management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), PDF editing, and document control systems
- Third-party contractor and supplier management
- Direct report supervision and leadership
- Project scheduling and planning fundamentals
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Self-starter with strong commitment to quality, execution, and safety
- Minimum 5 years of on-site experience supporting renewable power generation construction, startup, and commissioning
- Minimum 3 years of EPC experience in renewable energy project commissioning and construction
- Proven ability to collaborate with engineering teams on complex technical issues
- Demonstrated experience coordinating with construction teams on constructability, scheduling, and cost considerations
