Job Responsibilities
In this role, you will support commissioning activities for utility-scale solar projects as part of the RCO Solar team. Working with one of the world’s largest photovoltaic utility system developers, you will oversee system startup, performance testing, and commissioning processes to ensure solar power plants operate efficiently and meet compliance requirements. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting performance analytics of PV power plant systems, including inverters, trackers, substations, and SCADA control systems.
- Preparing solar projects for testing related to PPA (Power Purchase Agreements), GIA (Generator Interconnection Agreements), and ISO (Independent System Operator) requirements.
- Coordinating energy forecasting and operational readiness during the startup of large photovoltaic systems.
- Acting as the Owner’s representative to oversee PV system compliance, testing, commissioning, and reporting.
- Managing and monitoring commissioning work performed by contractors and vendors at project sites.
- Supporting system integration and commissioning activities with engineering, SCADA, and operations teams.
Essential Duties and Job Functions
- Prepare and coordinate projects for PPA, GIA, and ISO testing requirements.
- Manage test energy forecasts and coordinate AVR/AGC notifications with customers, control centers, and external stakeholders.
- Support IT and SCADA teams with functional system checks and validation.
- Develop and maintain commissioning schedules aligned with mechanical completion timelines in coordination with the SCADA Integrator and Execution Commissioning Project Manager.
- Verify SCADA HMI functionality and system accuracy with the SCADA Integrator and Commissioning Manager.
- Support CEWIS Critical Point Checkout processes with ROCC alarm checks and PGD validation.
- Monitor and review system performance data to identify and address operational deficiencies.
- Coordinate commissioning and testing activities across multiple project stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation and reporting related to commissioning activities and system performance.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of utility-scale photovoltaic construction and commissioning processes.
- Familiarity with photovoltaic system components including PV modules, combiners, inverters, transformers, meteorological stations, and substations.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing solar plant performance data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with internal teams, contractors, and executives.
- Excellent organizational and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple commissioning activities and project timelines simultaneously.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working with utility-scale solar power systems.
Preferred Experience: - Professional or graduate-level academic experience related to utility-scale PV systems.
- Prior experience working with SCADA systems in industrial plants or processes.
- 1–3 years of experience
working with electrical grid participants such as Transmission Operators, Independent System Operators (ISOs), or Balancing Authorities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to distinguish colors to interpret color-coded HMI controls.
- Ability to work with prolonged periods of screen time.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle when traveling between work locations.
