The database engineer is responsible for efficient planning, collection and maintenance of automotive data sets, and for providing analyses of the data. You should be the kind of person that "nerds out" on data and gets excited about opportunities to discover, collect, and structure information. You understand the different ways data can be stored, accessed, and analyzed in various database applications and have the query building skills to back it up.
The ideal candidate is a team player who strives for excellence, has experience working with data in a variety of systems, has hands-on automotive repair experience or deep knowledge of the automotive world and is comfortable with data analysis and report creation. You can get extra points for verifiable "flexible perfectionism", three-dimensional thinking, an ability to solve complex puzzles and an extreme attention to detail.
Would your ideal job include the following?
- Taking ownership of data and constantly improving its quality and integrity; proactively identifying data quality issues at every step and coordinating with the appropriate teams and/or vendors to resolve any discrepancies and improve accuracy.
- Having direct input in the design, development, and management of a growing and complex data pipeline.
- Ensuring consistent and uniform data integrity.
- Reporting on system performance and outcomes, suggesting ways to better maintain and improve efficacy of analytic systems.
- Combining multiple sources of data into a single, structured data store.
- Supporting additional company needs by understanding all aspects of the data.
- Extracting data from multiple sources, standardize the data, and produce analyses.
- Creating ongoing and ad-hoc reports with appropriate metadata and quality information.
- Documenting processes, policies and procedures to enable eventual advancement and growth within the department.
- Supporting the execution of annual products across the calendar year.
- 5+ years' hands-on database experience.
- Expertise in Postgres (required), SQL Server, and MySQL. Knowledge of Access database a plus.
- Knowledge of Git version control required.
- Knowledge of Razor ASP.NET and/or React also a plus.
The following qualifications - that would be a "plus":
- You play well with others. You know that it takes good communication and collaboration across on organization to be successful. And you know that finding a solution is more important than placing blame.
- You rise to the challenge of producing quality work with the constraints imposed by the tyranny of time.
- You identify tasks which require automation and automate them. It's in your blood. It's what you do.
- You're a natural at simplifying complicated technical matters when discussing with less technically savvy colleagues or partners. You know not everyone is a tech god like you and that's okay.
- You're organized and pay attention to the details. You are meticulous but know when good is good enough.
- You believe feedback is a gift. You welcome constructive criticism because you continually want to improve. You own and learn from your mistakes.
- Formal training and an accredited degree*
