Durability RLDA Engineer (Up to 100% Travel)

Location: Plymouth, MI (Up to 100% travel within the U.S.)

Duration: 12-month contract

Pay Rate:$55–$65 per hour



Job Summary

The Road Load Data Acquisition (RLDA) Engineer will lead public road data collection efforts in the field. This role involves working closely with cross-functional durability teams to identify optimal testing locations and ensure efficient data collection and sharing. The position plays a key role in supporting the performance and reliability of sustainable mobility solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Field Leadership:
  • Lead on-site RLDA initiatives to capture high-quality durability data on public roads.
  • DAQ System Management:
  • Configure and operate Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems for collecting public road load profiles.
  • Vehicle Data Integration:
  • Set up and record onboard vehicle data (e.g., CAN) and integrate with external sensors.
  • Logistics & Navigation:
  • Manage field logistics including vehicle charging, site access, and coordination across hubs. Safely operate test vehicles across varied terrains and regions.
  • Data Management:
  • Perform daily data integrity checks and upload collected data to central servers.
  • Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate records of instrumentation setup, wiring schematics, calibration certificates, and troubleshooting logs.
  • Collaboration:
  • Work effectively within small, cross-functional teams during long-term field assignments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in data collection and processing; durability testing experience preferred.
  • Experience with commercial data acquisition hardware and software (experience with MARS Labs is a plus).
  • Hands-on experience with vehicle instrumentation setup and troubleshooting (WFT experience desirable).
  • Familiarity with Electric Vehicle (EV) safety protocols and high-voltage systems.
  • Experience analysing and cleaning data using nCode or similar tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform independent root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively in small team environments.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

  • Comfortable working in varying road conditions and terrains
  • Flexibility to work overtime or non-standard hours when required
