Job Responsibilities:
In this role, you will lead assigned substation projects from early development through construction and commissioning, supporting utility-scale energy infrastructure projects. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing substation projects across full lifecycle phases, including:
o Concept development
o Engineering design
o Construction support
o Commissioning execution - Supporting large-scale renewable and energy infrastructure projects including:
o Solar
o Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
o Wind
o Hydrogen systems - Working with Early-Stage Project Managers to define engineering scope and requirements
- Providing technical oversight of external Engineers of Record (EOR)
- Ensuring project compliance with utility interconnection and engineering standards
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Manage assigned substation projects from conception through execution
- Support engineering requirements and scope development during conceptual phases
- Provide technical oversight, due diligence, and training to external engineering consultants
- Ensure compliance with:
o Interconnection agreements
o Project scope documents
o Site-specific design requirements
o Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards
o National Electrical Safety Code requirements
o American Society of Civil Engineers standards - Develop scopes of work for approved engineering suppliers
- Secure bids, evaluate proposals, and support consultant awards through supply chain processes
- Coordinate site development, engineering updates, and permitting requirements
- Support sourcing and contracting of geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services
- Support cost estimating teams with scope assumptions and technical input
- Present project progress, risks, and mitigation plans to management
Transmission / Interconnection Support:
- Support transmission services during review of:
o System impact studies
o Facility studies
o Reactive studies
o Harmonic studies
o Interconnection agreements - Ensure transmission owner requirements align with engineering design
- Communicate regularly with transmission owners, operators, and ISOs to ensure compliance and timely deliverables
Procurement & Material Management:
- Manage long-lead major material orders to minimize schedule and budget risk
- Support supply chain with:
o Scope of work creation
o Engineering service approvals
o Material purchasing requests
Cross-Functional Project Support:
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to establish project priorities and execution plans
- Support commissioning activities to meet project objectives
- Support legal teams with regulatory filings, hearings, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with OEMs to improve component integration into project design philosophies

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering required
- Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred
- 15+ years of experience planning, designing, and executing large-scale energy projects
- Strong renewable energy experience required
- Advanced system integration experience preferred
