Hydrogen Group is currently supporting a leading energy infrastructure client in the search for a Pipeline Facilities Engineer to support large-scale natural gas transmission projects on a 12-month remote contract basis.
The Pipeline Facilities Engineer will serve as the technical lead for the planning, design oversight, construction support, and operational integration of natural gas metering and regulating facilities associated with interstate and intrastate pipeline systems. The role will support the development of a major natural gas pipeline hub connecting multiple pipeline systems through a common interconnect and pressure regulation facility.
This position will oversee engineering support for metering and regulation stations, mainline valves, pig launcher and receiver systems, SCADA infrastructure, telemetry systems, and associated pipeline operational facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Hub & Interconnect Design
- Support engineering activities for natural gas pipeline hub developments connecting multiple transmission systems.
- Evaluate pipeline operating pressures, flow balancing requirements, and system hydraulics.
- Assist with operating philosophies related to gas receipt, delivery, pressure control, and emergency response strategies.
- Review system flexibility requirements supporting changing operational flow conditions.
Metering & Regulation Facility Engineering
- Provide engineering oversight for:
- Custody transfer metering stations
- Pressure regulating stations
- Gas filtration and separation systems
- Flow control systems
- Gas quality measurement systems
- Overpressure protection systems
- Pipeline interconnect facilities
- Review equipment sizing and selection including:
- Ultrasonic and turbine meters
- Control valves and regulators
- Relief valves
- Filters and separators
- Ensure facilities support operational reliability, maintainability, measurement accuracy, and future expansion capability.
Mainline Valve & Pipeline Facilities Design
- Oversee engineering support for:
- Mainline valve assemblies
- Automated block valve stations
- Emergency isolation valve systems
- Pig launcher and receiver facilities
- Blowdown systems
- Bypass piping arrangements
- Support valve spacing reviews, emergency isolation strategies, and maintenance accessibility planning.
- Coordinate pipeline tie-in and outage planning activities.
Telemetry, Controls & SCADA Integration
- Provide oversight for pipeline telemetry and SCADA integration supporting remote operations and monitoring.
- Review:
- SCADA architectures
- RTU and PLC control systems
- Communications systems
- Remote telemetry equipment
- Instrumentation layouts
- Alarm and shutdown philosophies
- Coordinate with operations and automation teams to ensure compatibility with existing systems.
Engineering Oversight & Contractor Management
- Serve as owner’s engineering representative overseeing third-party engineering firms and EPC contractors.
- Review and approve:
- P&IDs
- Facility layouts
- Pipe stress analyses
- Instrumentation and control philosophies
- Civil, structural, and electrical designs
- SCADA and telemetry designs
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering reviews and technical evaluations.
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Support construction planning and field execution activities for greenfield and brownfield facilities.
- Participate in:
- Constructability reviews
- FAT/SAT testing
- Commissioning and startup activities
- Performance verification
- Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams during facility turnover activities.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- PHMSA regulations
- ASME B31.8
- API standards
- AGA measurement standards
- NFPA requirements
- Participate in:
- Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
- HAZOP reviews
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Safety and risk assessments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in natural gas pipeline facilities engineering, transmission systems, or metering and regulating station design.
- Direct experience with:

Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Experience supporting interstate pipeline systems and pipeline hub developments.
- Experience with large-scale pipeline expansion projects.
- Knowledge of gas control operations and pipeline scheduling.
- Experience with ultrasonic metering and flow computer configuration.
