This is a specialized consulting opportunity supporting large-scale transmission construction projects across Texas. The role will serve as a subject matter expert for construction access and matting, helping project teams determine the right matting solutions based on site conditions, equipment requirements, and construction needs.
The consultant will work closely with project managers, construction teams, contractors, and other stakeholders to improve how matting is planned, utilized, and managed across projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Review matting plans, quantities, types, and access requirements for construction projects.
- Evaluate matting needs based on ground conditions, equipment loads, and site requirements.
- Help plan temporary access roads, work pads, staging areas, and right-of-way access.
- Identify opportunities to improve mat utilization, rotation, reuse, and removal across projects.
- Conduct periodic site visits to review field conditions and mat deployment.
- Work closely with project managers, construction managers, contractors, and procurement teams.
- Develop recommendations, standards, and reporting around matting and access planning.
Ideal Background
- Strong experience with construction matting, temporary access, or ground protection.
- Background in electric transmission/distribution, pipeline, oil & gas, heavy civil, or infrastructure construction.
- Knowledge of timber, laminated, CLT, and/or composite matting products.
- Understanding of ground conditions, equipment loading, crane pads, temporary roads, and construction access.
- Experience reviewing construction plans, contractor scopes, quantities, or estimates.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with field and project teams.
- Texas-based with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
