Job Responsibilities
In this role, you will support generator interconnection and transmission planning activities for utility-scale energy projects within the MISO and SPP regions. The position works closely with internal development teams, ISOs/RTOs, utilities, and transmission owners to support the successful development and execution of new generating assets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing generator interconnection processes throughout the full project lifecycle.
- Coordinating interconnection application filings, queue management, and study reviews.
- Supporting negotiation and amendments of generator interconnection agreements.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders on transmission planning and grid reliability activities.
- Supporting development, construction, and strategic growth initiatives including M&A and greenfield projects.
Essential Duties and Job Functions
- Manage generator interconnection applications while ensuring compliance with ISO/RTO requirements and timelines.
- Coordinate with ISOs/RTOs, utilities, developers, and transmission owners to support project interconnections.
- Review and analyze system impact studies and transmission planning data.
- Provide technical guidance related to transmission planning and grid reliability.
- Support development teams by identifying and resolving transmission-related technical issues.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize interconnection processes and project execution.
- Monitor transmission policy, regulatory requirements, and industry trends.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly to stakeholders and leadership teams.
- Coordinate with multiple internal and external subject matter experts to support project objectives.
- Perform additional project-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of power systems and transmission planning principles.
- Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and grid reliability practices.
- Experience with:
- Steady-state thermal and voltage analysis
- Short-circuit analysis
- Transient stability studies
- Familiarity with industry software tools such as:
- PSS/E
- PSLF
- PowerGEM TARA
- TSAT
- ASPEN
- Understanding of ISO/RTO planning processes and generator interconnection studies.
- Knowledge of transmission policy and regulatory requirements.
- Strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively across all organizational levels.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Education & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with transmission planning, generator interconnection, or utility-scale energy projects.
- Experience working with ISOs/RTOs, utilities, or transmission providers.
- Understanding of utility and ISO interconnection study methodologies and business practices.
Preferred / Nice to Have:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Direct experience with MISO and/or SPP interconnection processes.
- Experience supporting renewable energy or grid integration projects.
- Experience with generator or load interconnection agreements.
- Background in transmission planning with a focus on grid reliability.
- Experience supporting M&A diligence or greenfield development projects.
