Scientist, Screening & Analytical Chemistry

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Scientist in Analytical Chemistry to lead the development of high-throughput analytical workflows supporting their R&D pipeline. This is a hands-on, high-impact role on a tight-knit, multidisciplinary team.

What You'll Do

The Scientist will develop and optimize analytical methods for targeted metabolite quantification, leading method development on GC/MS, GC-FID, and LC-QQQ-MS platforms. You'll design high-throughput analytical workflows with fast cycle times, develop sample preparation and derivatization strategies, and work alongside automation and screening teams to support microtiter plate-based fermentations. Additional responsibilities include analyzing and interpreting large datasets, mentoring junior staff, interfacing with instrument vendors to maintain uptime and optimal performance, and authoring SOPs and technical reports.

Required:

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or related field — OR — MS with 8+ years or BS with 13+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong, demonstrated experience in analytical method development
  • Hands-on expertise developing GC-FID and GC/MS assays for targeted quantitation and metabolite profiling
  • LC/QQQ-MS assay development for targeted quantitation
  • Track record of optimizing assays for speed, sensitivity, and throughput

Preferred:

  • High-throughput screening environment experience
  • Integration of analytical workflows with automation and liquid handling platforms
  • Familiarity with LIMS systems (Benchling preferred) and large dataset analysis
  • Industrial biotech or applied R&D background
  • Experience with UHPLC, GC-FID, GC/MS, and LC/QQQ-MS instrumentation
  • Sample extraction and prep across complex matrices (microbial fermentation broth, microbial biomass, purified extracts), including automated approaches

What You'll Get

  • Competitive base salary aligned with your experience
  • Equity participation in a high-growth synthetic biology company
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • Direct exposure to leadership and a clear path for technical career growth
