Senior Electrical Engineer

DURATION:
12 month contract
PAY:
62-67 USD per hour
Job Responsibilities:
In this role, you will lead and oversee complex engineering projects focused on utility-scale solar, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), and power plant operations. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading advanced engineering initiatives, including:
o Designing and optimizing utility-scale solar and BESS systems
o Developing and overseeing PLC programming (Schneider Electric platforms preferred)
o Managing SCADA and HMI system development (Ignition platform)
o Supporting grid interconnection and compliance requirements - Providing executive-level technical oversight for engineering and project execution
- Negotiating technical, regulatory, and performance requirements
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards, grid codes, and utility requirements
- Supporting FAT/SAT testing, commissioning, and OEM performance validation
- Managing engineering risk, system integration, and long-term reliability performance
- Acting as a technical authority across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Supporting PPA, LGIA, and OEM testing completion and accountability
- Traveling up to 25% to support project commissioning activities
Essential Duties and Job Functions:
- Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across renewable energy projects
- Serve as the subject matter expert on engineering standards and regulatory compliance
- Design and optimize power systems, control systems, and grid-connected infrastructure
- Provide technical risk analysis and mitigation strategies
- Oversee PLC programming and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3)
- Develop and integrate SCADA systems and HMI applications
- Ensure designs meet safety standards, performance targets, and long-term reliability goals
- Support commissioning, system testing, and final project handoff
- Coordinate with customer leadership to solve complex engineering challenges
- Maintain documentation, compliance records, and regulatory reporting
Knowledge & Skills:
- Expert-level PLC programming (Schneider Electric preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of Modbus, DNP3, and industrial communication protocols
- Strong experience with Ignition SCADA and HMI development
- Deep understanding of power systems and grid interconnection requirements
- Experience with BESS control systems, inverters, and energy storage technologies
- Familiarity with NERC CIP cybersecurity standards (preferred)
- Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Strong system integration and risk management expertise
- Excellent communication and technical documentation skills
- Ability to influence executive-level stakeholders
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 11+ years of experience in PLC programming and power system engineering
- Proven experience in utility-scale renewable energy or power generation projects
- Experience supporting FAT/SAT testing and commissioning procedures
- Demonstrated experience managing complex engineering projects from concept through execution
